‘Good Causes’ Cash Handed Out

The three beneficiaries of the 2022-2023 ‘Local Community Fund’, courtesy of shoppers at the Ruddington Co-op, have now received their money. They were Ruddington & District U3AThe Ruddington Pantry and 1st Clifton Scout Group.

The cash is generated by Co-op members each time they buy groceries, insurance, financial and funeral services – and altogether totalled £10.4m to nearly 4,000 good causes during the past 12 months.

Locally, Ruddington and District U3A (pictured top) received £2710.81. Barbara Breakwell from the U3A says: “We are delighted to have been chosen as a Local Community Fund cause. The money we have been awarded will support our members Health and Wellbeing via a variety of activities and events, which will be held in the village. We extend grateful thanks to the Coop and their customers.”

The Ruddington Pantry have also received a cheque for £3644.45. Carol Jaggers says: “Thank you so much to all the members of Co-op who selected us as their cause enabling us to raise such a large sum of money. The money represents almost 2 years of running costs for us.”  The Clifton Scouts will be using their £2184.91 to help pay towards an activity camp for all sections from 4-14 years of age.

Gwen Eyre member pioneer for Ruddington, Clifton and Wilford (pictured above left) comments: “It is such a pleasure to give money to local groups as I can see the benefits of the money first hand.”  She adds: “It is never too late to select a cause for this year which is easy to do via the Co-op App, online or over the phone (0800 0686727). This year Ruddington food store is supporting the NG11 Clifton Food Bank and Friends of Dovecote school. Alternatively, you can select from a larger number of causes via the App.”

Since the Co-op Local Community Fund began in 2016, members have contributed an impressive £100m to over 36,000 unique community projects.
